Liminton Qualifies a best ever 4th, Blyth drops from 3rd to 8th
17 year old Nic Liminton has netted his best ever qualifying performance in the Australian Supersport Championship putting his Yamaha YZF-R6 on the front of the 2nd row with 4th position. The young South Aussie is becoming more and more comfortable on Race Center’s FD-02 suspension and Nic is really starting to find his feet in the ultra-competitive class. Nic lapped WA’s Barbagallo Raceway in 58.3 which was only 0.3 off a front row start.
It wasn’t as happy a camp on the other side of the pit shed with Ben Blyth. The Victorian was sitting in 3rd position after qualifying 1 however he was unable to improve his time in Q2 after we tried a different setting on his FD-02 suspension. It wasn’t through a lack of trying, Ben gave it everything wrestling his Yamaha YZF-R6 to the limit but we just didn’t find the grip we had in the morning session. Still Ben has made big steps in lap time today and we are confident he can have a good couple of races tomorrow.
Nic: “I felt really good in the second qualifying on the Race Center R6. Hopefully I can stay with the front group in the races tomorrow and get a great result for myself and the team.
Ben: “Very disappointed not to improve our time for Q2 but we are on the right track in terms of bike set up. On the good side I am feeling confident for the 2 races tomorrow.”
Race Center Team Principle, Darren Sciberras: “I am really pleased with both riders and the team today. We really had a bit of a struggle on our hands with Ben’s setup yesterday however we made great in roads today. Nic continues to impress and he is ticking every box he needs to on his path to becoming a top level rider in this sport. Many people underestimate the hard and long path towards becoming a top Supersport ride. Luckily we as a team have done it many times before and are committed to helping guide these kids towards the front. Nothing is more satisfying then seeing their progress.
I was super proud of Nesto and Fyffey today too. Our qualifying strategy was strong and the boys executed the pit stop seamlessly.”
