Triple threat for Cube Racing in Grand Prix Supersport races

Cube Racing will enter its final national event of the 2016 season with a three-rider assault on the Phillip Island Championship Supersport division during this weekend’s Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix in Victoria.
Fresh from winning a race at the final round of this year’s Australian Supersport Championship, national number four Callum Spriggs has confidence on his side and will be looking to impress one final time this season.

“I’m very keen to get on track this weekend for the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, here at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit,” Spriggs said. “I regard the MotoGP support event the most enjoyable race of the year, as there is not a lot of pressure.

“I’m feeling pretty confident this weekend, as we had a good test here last week, so it’s just up to me. Looking forward to having some fun with the Cube Racing team, which will be the last event for us for the year.”
Teammate and fellow Queenslander Robbie Menzies is also looking forward to capping off what’s been a strong first season in Supersport: “This year has been a massive learning curve for me, but it has been really good. It will be another big weekend racing at the MotoGP in the support class, so hopefully we can finish out the year with a good result.”

Cube Racing will feature a third rider in Supersport this weekend, young Goulburn teenager Tom Toparis. He’s been a standout in the Production ranks of the Australian Superbike Championship on debut and has shown great maturity in adapting to the 600cc entry as well.

“I’m really excited about heading into this weekend,” Toparis said. “As it’s my first ever Supersport race weekend, I don’t really know what to expect, apart from I hope do well and deliver the Cube Racing team a good result. After a positive two-day test here at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit last week I feel ready as I can be.

“In regards to this weekend, I would be happy, well, I’m not really going to set any goals as it will put pressure on me, so I’m just going to go out there and enjoy the weekend and see what happens. It would be good to finish in the top 10 however – I would be satisfied with that.”

The Australian Supersport category will make its first on-track appearance at 8:25am on Friday morning, before going onto qualifying and stage three eight-lap races across the weekend as part of the Phillip Island Championship.
