Czech flyer to compete in ASBK Supersport 300 opener
Czech rider Petr Svoboda will make a one-off Supersport 300 appearance in round one of the 2024 mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul at Phillip Island from February 23-25.
Svoboda, who finished sixth in the 2023 FIM Supersport 300 World Championship will ride the Füsport – RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki Ninja 400 across the three eight-lap races, in what will be his first ride at the grand prix circuit.
“We are happy to participate in the ASBK Supersport 300 championship,” said Rob Vennegoor, team manager at Füsport – RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki. “Thanks to our cooperation with Wepol Racing Parts and Fusport, we can show our passion on a global stage.
“We are convinced that Petr will quickly adapt with the Kawasaki Ninja 400 on the circuit that is new to him. In addition, it is special experience that we as team will be in action for the very first time on Philip Island, and then come to Australia with a European rider.”
Svoboda will certainly have a full workload at Phillip Island against a mass of Aussie hard-chargers – a mix of incumbents and those progressing from the highly regarded Oceania Junior Cup academy – and all at a circuit where victories are usually measured in milliseconds.
Vennegoor will also be a welcome visitor Down Under, with the Dutchman having been a massive champion of European-bound Australian riders over many years.
The first round of the 2024 mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul will take place on February 23-25 at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit alongside the Superbike World Championship opener.
