Power takes Race One Win in Sporties Club Challenge
Luke Power (Graeme Willams Eng, Kawasaki Ninja 300) is looking at the perfect weekend in the Sporties Club Challenge as he qualified fastest this morning before taking out race one this afternoon. Power is looking the part as the Sporties Club Challenge runs alongside the Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli (ASBK).
Power was faultless around the physically demanding Morgan Park Circuit, leading from start to finish as he is looking to complete the perfect weekends riding.
Peter Nerlich (Kawasaki Ninja 300) was the rider with the task of trying to reel Power in, but from the get go Nerlich just couldn’t stick with him and settling for second place, just over five seconds off the pace.
Rounding out the podium was Matthew Bushell (Honda CBR 300) who missed yesterday’s practice but still found good race pace after qualifying.
In fourth position it was Anthony Carroll (Honda CBR 300) and rounding out the top five was Leigh Holmes (Honda CBR 160).
The battle for sixth and seventh went right down to the wire, with Mark Torrance (Mark Torrance Electrical, Honda CBR 300) and Liam Van Booma (HuaHua Racing, Honda CBR 300) battling out all the way to the finish line, but it was Torrance who got the better of the battle.
The Sporties Club Challenge are back out on Morgan Park Raceway tomorrow for two more races, race two begins at 10:05am and then race three at 3:50pm.
