Power on Song in Sporties Club Challenge

As a support class for Round 5 of the Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli (ASBK) the Sporties Club Challenge kicked off with Luke Power (Graeme Willams Eng, Kawasaki Ninja 300) clocking a 1:28.232, to end the day fastest at Morgan Park Raceway.

Power was the only rider in the Sporties Club Challenge to register a lap in the 1:28s, showing he will be the rider to catch throughout the weekend.

Finishing in second after the day’s three practice sessions was Peter Nerlich (Kawasaki Ninja 300) finishing with a best time of 1:29.029. Rounding out the top three was Stephany Kapilawi-James (Big Knobs Sliders, Kawasaki Ninja 300) after setting a best lap of 1:30.077.

Mark Torrance (Mark Torrance Electrical, Honda CBR 300) was just off the pace of Kapilawi-James, finishing the day in fourth with a best lap of 1:30.474.

The top five was rounded out by Liam Van Booma (HuaHua Racing, Honda CBR 300) who was just under two second off the pace of Torrance with a 1:32.155.

The Sporties Club Challenge are back on tomorrow with qualifying kicking off at 9:45am for qualifying one and then qualifying two is at 12:30pm. The afternoon then kicks up a gear with the first race starting at 4:15pm.
