PCFA Announced as the Official Charity of ASBK

The Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli (ASBK) is pleased to announce that the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) will be the official charity of the championship for the 2018 season. The collaboration will aim to promote the importance of prostate cancer research and awareness within the fan base of motorcycle racing. The announcement comes on the eve of ASBK Round 2 at Wakefield Park Raceway (March 16-18).

PCFA will have a sizeable presence at ASBK events, including; advertising in the Program, a stall in Trade Alley, tickets to be raffled off on PCFA social media, promotion on the ASBK website and more!

Prostate cancer is incredibly relevant and important for fans, their families and friends with one in eight men who attend ASBK likely to be affected by prostate cancer in their lifetime.

Since 2007 PCFA has administered one of the largest prostate cancer research funding programs in Australia. It’s decade-long partnership with The Movember Foundation has led to the establishment of numerous prostate cancer research centres nationally. Development of a new Funding Strategy 2018-2022 is underway. The PCFA fund projects that translate basic research outcomes into new initiatives and therapies, with the goal of reducing the impact of prostate cancer on our community.

Motorcycling Australia’s Operations Director, Martin Port shared his thoughts on the partnership; “We are very happy to be collaborating with the PCFA throughout the 2018 ASBK season, as the official charity. The research PCFA is undertaking to reduce the impact of prostate cancer on Australian men is important and the ASBK will assist in this matter.”

Malcolm Freame, Chief Operating Officer of PCFA, is excited to be a part of a major event and looks forward to using this platform to generate awareness.

“Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian men. We are grateful to ASBK for helping us raise awareness among their huge male ASBK fan base,” Malcolm Freame said.

“Our aim is for every man to know about the importance of talking to his doctor about testing for prostate cancer from age 50 to 40, if there is a family history of prostate cancer.”
