Motorcycling Australia (MA) would like to advise of two changes to the 2016 ASBK Calendar

In response competitor and industry feedback, Motorcycling Australia has now amended the 2016 Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) calendar.

Motorcycling Australia has reviewed the existing 2016 ASBK calendar, and made two date changes, which will see the series commence in February, and conclude in October 2016.

Please familiarise yourself with the following 2016 ASBK date changes:

  • Morgan Park Raceway, QLD Round 5 (previously Round 6) will now be held on 5th , 6th and 7th of August.

  • Winton Motor Raceway, VIC Round 6 (previously Round 5) will now be held on 30th of September, 1st, and 2nd of October 2016.

The recent changes are in light of discussions on how to make the 2016 championship affordable and sustainable moving forward, while also keeping in mind the logistical challenges of riders and teams in attending each round of the ASBK.

The planned MA and Troy Bayliss Events (TBE) ‘Summer Series’, motoSBK will now take place within the more traditional 2017 calendar year following positive feedback from the industry.

David Cottee, CEO of Motorcycling Australia, when asked, expressed his enthusiasm and excitement after announcing the new ASBK date changes.

“We are inspired and motivated by all who are involved in the sport to make the ASBK Championship an affordable and sustainable series,” he said.

“We have listened to our teams and competitors, partners, and our valued sponsors, who have expressed that by rescheduling two of the ASBK Championship rounds for 2016, we have put ourselves in good stead to welcome what the future of this national series has in store.

“We are hoping that with this announcement, we can embrace more positive changes to the series and will endeavor to make the process as smooth and sustainable as possible.”

Mark Petersen of TBE has also made comments about the ASBK’s 2016 calendar amendments.

“It’s great to see Motorcycling Australia has been able to adjust the calendar for 2016, hopefully this can assist with anyone that had concerns about the initial shortened series,” he said.

“After positive industry feedback, Troy Bayliss Events are happy to move forward with motoSBK to now be held within the 2017 calendar season.”

“It is exciting to be a part of this process and to see the sport constantly evolving for everyone’s benefit. We’re very much looking forward to making some further announcements regarding 2017 and beyond in the coming weeks.”
