Levy snares maiden ASBK Supersport round and race win
A 1-4 result was good enough for YRD supported rider Mitch Levy to take the top honours in the 600cc Supersport class at round three of the Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) at Sydney Motorsport Park over the weekend.
After starting from fifth place on the grid, Levy picked off the riders in front of him relentlessly until he hit the lead on lap seven. He then went on for a convincing race win, his first in the ASBK Supersport category. In process of winning race one, the 21-year-old also set the fastest lap of the race on lap eight, by posting a 1min33.937.
Race two saw riders having to race in wet weather conditions. Once again the best placed YRD Supersport rider was Levy, who finished fourth and scored 8.5-points after the ten lap race was cut to just six after a crash on track.
Levy explained that in race two he pushed as hard as he could, but didn’t quite have the correct setup on his Yamaha YZF-R6 machine.
“It’s unreal to finally win a race Supersport race in the ASBK series,” said Levy after race one. “We have been trying hard in the last few years so it’s nice to finally have ticked that box now.”
“Race two the front end of the bike was good, but I was just struggling with rear grip. Overall however I’m just stoked to be able to come away with the win for myself and the Landbridge Racing team. Couldn’t have done it without the team and Sam Costanzo from Landbridge Transport.”
Making it an YRD one-three in the opening race was JNL Racing’s Luke Mitchell, while Troy Guenther (Graffiti Alley Racing) was the next placed YRD rider in fifth place.
Despite finishing sixth for the round, Troy Guenther still holds the championship lead after three rounds. He has a six point lead over his nearest rival as the tour now moves to WA for round four of the championship.
