Kelso Making an Impact for GP Juniors Cup
Joel Kelso (JDS Moto, Yamaha YZF-R15) has clinched victory in Race One of the GP Juniors Cup at the Spokes.com.au presents Round 6 Winton Motor Raceway. Kelso has raced in the past two Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli (ASBK) rounds and it’s been a welcome return for the international racer from the NT.
Kelso has been racing in the CIV Moto3 national Championships in Italy as of late, and he managed to take victory here at Winton, whist coming under pressure from Australia’s rising stars of Road Race. He will soon be heading back to Europe after this meeting.
The racing was extremely competitive between the top four in particular with only 1.8 seconds separating the battle pack. Taking victory was Kelso, followed by Luke Power (G.Williams Eng., Yamaha YZF-R15) and John Lytras (Caboolture Yamaha, Yamaha YZF-R15) on the podium. Max Stauffer (Rock Oil, Yamaha YZF-R15) would just miss out in fourth after leading several stages of the race.
Establishing himself in the top five was Harrison Voight (Voight Contracting, Yamaha YZF-R15) from the Gold Coast, who is improving with ever race meeting. Angus Greenfell (ABU Engineering, Yamaha YZF-R15), Jamie Port (Mum and Dad Racing, Yamaha YZF-R15) and Josh Noden (J.B.J Builders, Yamaha YZF-R15) completed the top eight.
Fastest lap of the race went to the charging Queenslander, Lytras with a 1:45.208.
