Henry coming home to WA
Cube Racing Team rider and Team Manager Ben Henry is looking forward to the third round of the 2015 Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli, which heads to Western Australia in two weeks time.
Henry heads up the team that features both himself and current Superbike class leader Mike Jones, as the series makes its way across the Nullabor to Barbagallo Raceway in Wanneroo on 22-24 May.
For Henry, the round presents a wonderful opportunity to be back amongst friends and family having grown up in WA, and is looking forward to racing on the Barbagallo circuit.
“All my family is West Australian and I am looking forward to racing in front of my friends and family – very much so,” he said.
“I am really excited to race there – I have won a few State Superbike Championships there and have done a lot of laps at Wanneroo, and I am really looking forward to seeing everyone – my old mechanics, the guys I used to race against, my family – everyone.
“I think it will probably be an advantage to me in the first couple of sessions, but come race time I don’t think the other young fellas will be too far off.”
Henry believes that the local riders competing at the event are going to pull some surprises and feature at the pointy end of the Superbike class.
“I think they will be right there where they need to be,” he said.
“To be honest I think that the local guys in Perth would be the fastest state-level racers in the country, and they will give the guys a good run.
“You might find them on the second row or maybe even on the third row because there is a handful of really fast West Aussie guys that will get up and it will be pretty interesting.”
Talking about the year to date and the Cube Racing Team’s performance in the ASBK, Henry said that he had not expected the wonderful results achieved so far.
“This year’s success has certainly snuck up on us in a way, and it has definitely been really good.
“As Team Manager I am really happy – I haven’t been that happy with how I am going on the bike, but it’s of no real concern because as long as Mike’s going well I’m pretty happy really!
“Mike needs to get the job done in WA and that should set us up for the back half of the season – hopefully we can get a bit of breathing space which would be really good.
“I am more than happy with how everything has gone, I didn’t expect to be in this position and we’ve had great support from some of our sponsors to continue on in this championship, so we are just going to try and do our best.”
