Giles named as first ASBK Ambassador for 2016 series

It is an honour to be able to announce the three-time Australian Superbike champion, Shawn Giles, as an ASBK Ambassador, ahead of the commencement of the 2016 Australian Superbike Championship series.

As a national championship the ASBK strives to provide it’s competitors and teams with the best safety, competition and locations in order for it’s Australian athletes to thrive – therefore it was a clear choice to invite back Shawn Giles, and embrace his knowledge and expertise for the 2016 ASBK series.

Giles made comment on how much being an ASBK Ambassador means to him, and how important it is to be able to give back to the sport, which helped his successful career grow.

“It’s great to be an ASBK Ambassador, there is such a rich history of competitors and you can see that when you look back through the history books and look at the championship winners all the way back to Troy Corser, to the young Mike Jones. Overall, it’s a known national Championship backed by MA,” he said.

“It’s special to be an ambassador for the sport! I think it shows people where the level of this championship is, by being an ambassador. To see young guys coming through with the desire to win an Australian championship is fantastic, and to be able to help them with my knowledge of overseas racing I think is very beneficial.

“My idea of helping young guys is to hopefully give them some shortcuts, that I didn’t have when I started. Learning the hard way I hope I can share my experience so they can learn and they can go on to try and win world championships later on. I am proud to give back to the sport that has given me so much through my racing career.”

Giles has worked closely with young riders in the past, sharing his experiences and tips to assist in making the climb to the top a little easier. Giles will once again provide his services to competitors, supporting and instructing, giving advice to teams and support staff as well as taking part in the ASBK Pillion Ride Program on board his Suzuki GSXR-1000 machine.

The ASBK is excited to have a number of fantastic ambassadors coming on board to support the series in 2016, and look forward to announcing a few more exciting names, in the lead up to Round 1 of the ASBK in Phillip Island.
