Falzon ready to represent Australia

JD Racing pilot Daniel Falzon has plenty at stake this weekend when he takes to the Phillip Island Circuit at the final round of the 2015 Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli.

As well as his personal quest to consolidate second place in the Yamaha Motorcycle Insurance Superbike category, Falzon will be the selected rider representing Australia as part of the inaugural FIM Oceania – 2015 Road Race Championship.

Speaking about the opportunity to represent the green and gold on the racetrack, Falzon said he felt humbled to be representing his country against New Zealand for the Oceania title.

“It is an absolute honour to ride under the Australian banner against New Zealand for this inaugural Championship – to be selected as the one rider is fantastic for me and it’s fantastic for our team,” he said.

“It shows that all the effort we have put in has not gone unnoticed – I am going to give it my all, but I think it is going to be a pretty close battle.

“I am really just going to be trying to race as fast and as consistently as I can, and that’s all we can really ask for from the team.

“Of course there is a bit of added pressure racing for Australia in this round, but as I said I am just going to do the best that I can and hopefully we can take the inaugural title for Australia against New Zealand.”

Falzon has an air of confidence heading into the final round, and says that he has fond memories of racing at Phillip Island.

“I’m feeling quite confident heading into the last round – Phillip Island has always been a very special track for me,” he said.

“I won my first ever national race at the Island and I feel physically and mentally prepared for this round more than ever.”

Falzon admitted it will be a learning curve as he has not yet taken his Yamaha R1 around the venue previously, and he is looking forward to battling it out with Team Honda riders Troy Herfoss and Jamie Stauffer who will be out in force at the event.

“It is our first time riding the Yamaha R1 at Phillip Island, so there will be a stage of the weekend where I will have to be learning a new bike around the circuit.

“But I am really looking forward to racing the Honda boys because at the moment they really seem to be where the benchmark is in Australian racing and I want to see how close we can get to them.”
