Edwards Claims Scorching Victory for YMF R3 Cup

The Spokes.com.au Round 7 of the Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli (ASBK) played host to Race One of the YMF R3 Cup at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, that saw a masterclass from Tommy Edwards (Alpinestars, Yamaha YZF-R3), taking it out in fine fashion.

After securing Pole Position this morning for the YMF R3 Cup, Jack Mahaffy (Eastern Security Doors, Yamaha YZF-R3) took off well from his number one grid position.

The highlight of Race One was the battle between Edwards, Hunter Ford (Ford Brothers Racing, Yamaha YZF-R3) and Mahaffy and were separated by by just 0.042s across the finish-line, proving this class to be one of the more electrifying on the grid. Edwards would take the win by a nose.

Edwards set a new race lap record for his class with a 1:49.781, the win also extends Edwards points gap to Mahaffy by twelve points.

Quotes from the Riders
Hunter Ford
“It was good and close racing with loads of passing going on. I will keep trying tomorrow and try to get up there again!”

Tommy Edwards
“Every lap I tried to increase the gaps. I lined my bike up off the run out of MG Corner and kept it nailed throughout the lap. The braking zones are my strong point and really help me out when I am out there, especially on parity bikes. I really am looking forward to tomorrow’s racing.”
