Broc Pearson Ready For ASBK Supersport Championship Chase
Tuesday, February 25, 2020
2019 Supersport runner-up, Broc Pearson, is fighting fit after off-season surgery and is ready for this weekend’s first round of the mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship, presented by Motul, at Phillip Island.
The 19-year-old from Helenvale, Queensland, is hoping to launch his City2Surf Locksmith, Yamaha Motors Australia, YRD sponsored Yamaha YZF-R6 into a podium position this weekend.
Pearson spent most of the off-season laid up in bed having screws and rods removed from his legs from an accident in 2018, which is why last month’s Official ASBK Test was important to get some track time before the season start.
“The test wasn’t bad, it was really good to get a couple of days under my belt as I hadn’t had the chance to ride since Sydney (2019 last round) because of my operation,” he said.
“I was a little uncomfortable at the test, the result wasn’t too bad after not riding for four months.
“But in the last few weeks I’ve noticed my fitness and strength has picked up, I’m going really well, and I’ve had a good solid month of training and I’m in the best condition I’ve been in.”
2019 was a good year for Pearson who admits his main aim was to remain injury free throughout the year.
“Two years before that had been hell for me as I would end up on the ground and then in on a hospital bed, that’s why last year was so important for me to remember my goal, to remain injury free and to come out runner up was really good.
“This year I don’t want to be third or second, I want to go back out there and be the fastest guy.”
Pearson believes the competition will be tough in the MotorsportsTV Supersport class.
“There is a couple of guys that have made some improvements, people like Nic Liminton will be up the front, Oli (Bayliss) is fast, and Tommy (Toparis) at the first round, he’s exceptionally fast and he will be the one to beat.”
Pearson has strong local backing from Queensland and national businesses including North Queensland Finance Solutions, Advancetown Hotel, Gold Coast Welding Supplies, Earmold Australia, Anchor Buoy, Motul AGV, TCX Boots, K&N Air filters, MRA Screens, Mark Jackson Automotive
“I have a bunch of people that have got onboard this year to support me which is great to have local support.
“I also get so much support from my Dad and I’m really lucky to have a Dad like I do.
“He works until five or six and then works on my bike until 2-3am and puts a lot money into my racing as well.
“I’m working with my dad five days a week at the moment, doing physio two-three times a week, gym workouts, and then bike sessions and we love it and one day we hope it pays-off.”
Pearson wants Australian fans to come out in force this weekend at Phillip Island for the Motul FIM Superbike World Championship, Yamaha Finance Round and the first round of the mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship, Presented by Motul.
“There is going to be a massive amount of racing over the weekend that you don’t get to see at a normal round and if I was a fan of racing, I would definitely be going this weekend.”
