Boughen & Shorter Continue to Shine in Australian Sidecar Championship
The Horsell Consulting Round of the 2018 Australian F1 & F2 Sidecar Championship kicked off at the end of qualifying day and thrilled attendees at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit for the Spokes.com.au presents Round 7 of the Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli (ASBK) with a seven lap race to remember.
Race One started at 4:00 PM in the afternoon after David Boughen / Robbie Shorter took pole position in the morning’s qualifier with a 1:47.231.
Taking the victory would be Boughen / Shorter with Howard Ford / Lee Menzies (California Custom Products, F1 LCR Suzuki 1000) a further 13 seconds back. Mick Alton / Christine Clancy (J&C Contracting, F2 LCR Suzuki 600) were the first of the F2’s, 17.315 seconds off the leaders in third overall.
F1 Sidecars class leaders David Boughen / Robbie Shorter were delighted in their result today winning F1 class and outright for Race One. Boughen sharing; “We tried to get Howard Ford and Lee Menzies to push us hard! We love the fast-flowing corners here at Phillip Island and its hard work on the passengers.”
F2 Sidecars Race winners Mick Alton / Christine Clancy were victorious the F2 class, stating on the podium; “I’m giving away 60 odd horsepower, so I was very surprised when I was able to pass the Western Australians, Graeme Evans and Jarrod Scott. There were some really close moments out there!”
