Barker ready to bounce back in QLD

Reigning ASBK Moto 3 Champion and hometown hero Callum Barker has shown that he will be a force to be reckoned with at the second round of the 2015 Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship.

The round is taking place at Morgan Park in Queensland, and for Barker who has spent countless laps riding around the circuit, the weekend presents and opportunity to edge his way back into championship calculations.

Barker had a round to forget in the Honda Moto 3 / 125GP class at the opening round at Phillip Island, but is out for redemption this weekend.

Speaking after he swept the Friday practice sessions at Morgan Park, Barker said he was looking forward to the weekend at one of his favourite tracks.

“Overall the whole day has been good – I have run the bike in, it has a new engine, and has been handling mint all day, and hopefully I can just pull the wings out for the weekend,” he said.

“The home track is a big advantage to me, but I just have to put my head down and keep going – just find my lines.

“I have the hometrack advantage. I know I can win, I am confident in that. The others will have to put their heads down and play the game. It should be exciting this weekend and hopefully everyone can stay on the track.”

Barker said that the disappointment of Phillip Island meant that it was even more important to finish on top of the podium this weekend.

“This year at round one at Phillip Island I had a blow up, and missed two complete races so have come into this round last in points effectively in Moto 3.

“The front-runners who were doing well at Phillip Island struggled today on my home track, so with the home advantage hopefully me and my teammate Brian (Houghton) can grab some firsts and seconds out and pull out a bit o a point gap this weekend.”
