Australian Superbike Championship Reveals Blockbuster 2020 Calendar

Motorcycle racing fans are set to witness the biggest and most spectacular Motul Pirelli Australian Superbike Championship in recent history, following today’s announcement of the 2020 calendar.

Featuring seven rounds across five different states, the 2020 ASBK will encompass a mixture of high-profile international events, a two-plus-four race meeting, and a selection of fan-favourite regional venues.

As has become tradition over recent years, the season will open at the Motul FIM Superbike World Championship Yamaha Finance Round at Phillip Island, giving riders a chance to showcase their abilities on the international stage.

Late March will see the ASBK travel to Wakefield Park for Round 2. The spectator-friendly Goulburn circuit always draws a passionate crowd and provides excellent spectator viewing.

Australia’s newest circuit, The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia, will host Round 3 as part of the International Motofest in May – this event will feature the Asia Road Race Championship, along with the inaugural Australian appearance of the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup.

A week later, the Superbikes join the Supercars Championship at Barbagallo Raceway for a two-plus-four race meeting at the Pirtek Perth Supernight, in what will be ASBK’s first trip to Western Australia since 2016.

After a mid-year break, the ASBK will return to the track for an official test at Morgan Park at the end of July, just over a week before the fifth round of the season at the regional Queensland circuit.

The ASBK concludes with a pair of Victorian rounds. The penultimate round will be held at Winton Motor Raceway in September, catering for the extensive fan base in the north-eastern Victorian region.

The championship will return to Phillip Island for the final round, the internationally-acclaimed motorcycle circuit playing host to what should be another thrilling decider.

Motorcycling Australia CEO Peter Doyle said the excitement around the finish to the 2019 ASBK will only serve to whet the appetite of fans ahead of the 2020 season.

“We’re currently witnessing one of the most thrilling ASBK seasons in history, but next year is shaping up to be even bigger and better,” Mr Doyle said.

“We’ve included a couple of events with an international flavour – the World Superbike round at Phillip Island and the International Motorfest at The Bend, and we’re also very excited to be running alongside the Supercars at Perth, where fans will get to witness the best of both two and four-wheeled motorsport.

“Were also going back to some regional venues that have passionately supported our championship. The Benalla Auto Club has been a valuable supporter of ASBK since 2016, and both Wakefield Park and Winton always attract good crowds from their regional communities. Similarly, Morgan Park is a well-run facility that draws motorcycle racing fans from Warwick and the surrounding areas.

“From a racing perspective, we have a good mixture of high-speed tracks like Phillip Island and The Bend, mixed with more technical circuits like Wakefield Park and Winton. This will give riders and teams the opportunity to exploit their specific strengths at different stages of the season.”

The 2019 Motul Pirelli Australian Superbike Championship will be decided at Sydney Motorsport Park, 1-3 November.
