5 reasons why the final round is going to be the best of the season
This weekend will see over one hundred competitors flock to Winton Motor Raceway for the grand finale round of the 2016 Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli, and with the stakes higher than ever we have five major reasons why this round will be the best of the season.
Not only will this weekend bring fans truckloads of entertainment with Live streaming, every class battling for Championship glory, the FIM Oceania battle heating things up and past champs making their way back to the circuit. Not to mention stunt rider action from Dave McKenna, this round will cap off what has been a fantastic year in Motorsport.
1. ASBK is live streaming the main race day:
Fans will be treated to plenty of action on and off the track this weekend, however for the fans who can’t be at Winton Motor Raceway the ASBK has provided them with the best opportunity to stay up to speed with everything happening on Sunday October 2.
From 9:10am EST the ASBK will be broadcast LIVE to everyone in the world via the ASBK website. Capturing the live racing moments, exclusive interviews with past and present champions and so much more, the LIVE Stream is not to be missed.
2. Every class will go down to the wire:
This year has been nothing short of exciting, and the final round will prove just how competitive the ASBK Championship has been so far. Every class this weekend is in Championship contention with only mere points separating positions one, two and three.
Yamaha Racing Team’s Wayne Maxwell and Glenn Allerton will battle Crankt Protein Honda Racing Team’s Troy Herfoss in the Yamaha Motorcycle Insurance Superbikes. But with such a close field it can’t be discounted that Team Apex Motorsports’ Josh Waters, Jon Daniels Racing’s Daniel Falzon, YRT’s Cru Halliday and Desmo Sport Ducati’s Mike Jones will apply the pressure to the front runners over the weekend.
The Motul Superport battle is just as close as the Superbike Championship, however with over 30 bikes in the Production classes this weekend, there is going to be plenty of dicing happening. The YMF R3 Cup and Honda Moto3/125GP will also be putting everything on the line to claim victory out of two very talented pools of competitors.
3.The FIM Oceania battle will ramp up to another level:
Since the 2015 FIM Oceania Road Racing Championship the class size has doubled now with a team of two representing both Australia and New Zealand and the competition heating up since the last round at Morgan Park Raceway.
Both defending 2015 Oceania Champ Daniel Falzon and defending 2015 Australian Superbike Champion Mike Jones are representing Australia, but after an interrupted round at Morgan Park, Kiwi duo Next Gen Motorsports Sloan Frost and Ryan Hampton triumphed over the Aussie pair.
This round, with ego’s at stake, will see the Kiwi’s verse the Aussies in the final two races of not only the Australian Superbike season but the FIM Oceania Road Racing season.
4. Past Champions to show their support:
It has recently been announced that over a dozen past champions will show their support this weekend to the Australia Superbike Championship which helped sky rocket these legends in to great Motorsport careers.
Returning to the familiar scene of Motorcycle Racing will include names such as Robbie Phillis, Steve Martin, Shawn Giles, Peter ‘God’ Goddard, Martin ‘Marty’ Craggill, Craig Coxhell, Adam ‘Crusty’ Ferguson and Mat Mladin, amongst the champs who are out on track defending their titles.
One past champ who will not only be at the track but will also be joining in on the Superbike battle is 2009 and 2012 Australian Superbike Champion Josh Waters on board a Yamaha R1 prepared by Team Apex Motorsports.
5. Stunt rider Dave McKenna to stun fans:
Yamaha Street bike stunt rider Dave McKenna, will keep the crowds on their toes defying gravity with tricks, twists and burnouts on board his Yamaha Machine.
Amongst one of the greats in Australian Stunt bike riding McKenna will be on track for all fans to see, entertaining the crowds in between racing. As if things couldn’t get any more exciting!
