Taylor Leads the Way in Close Supersport 300 Practice
Locky Taylor took the overall ascendancy in YMI Supersport 300 practice at Phillip Island today after a closely-contested second session, in which he was just 0.1s quicker than Winton round winner Yannis Shaw.
“We came out of the gates strongly today, so hopefully we can challenge for another round win again,” Shaw said.
“We can already see that slipstreaming is going to be the big thing this weekend; coming out of the last corner is going to be hectic.”
Seth Crump was third for the day, ahead of championship leader Max Stauffer, with Senna Agius completing the top five.
Motorsports TV Supersport
Tom Toparis continued his seemingly unstoppable surge towards the 2019 Motorsport TV Australian Supersport title, topping the practice times by over a second.
Like several other categories, one of the Supersports sessions was interrupted by wet weather, so the fastest times of the day were recorded in the opening two sessions.
Toparis ended up at the head of the field from Nic Liminton and Oliver Bayliss; Toparis’ closest title rival, Broc Pearson, was sixth-fastest.
YMF R3 Cup
Max Stauffer was the clear pace-setter in YMF R3 Cup, topping the day’s first and second sessions.
Locky Taylor continued his strong form from the Supersport 300 category to post the second-fastest time, ahead of Luke Jhonston, John Lytras and current points leader Hunter Ford.
bLU cRU Oceania Junior Cup
The evenly-matched form line in the Oceania Junior Cup continued at Phillip Island, with Max Gibbons topping the practice times by just 0.2s from series leader Carter Thompson and Tom Drane.
Winton round winner Archie McDonald was seventh, while title contender Angus Grenfell was only 14th-fastest.
Horsell Consulting Sidecars
While they’re coming from a long way behind the 2019 title contest, reigning Australian Sidecar Champions Howard Ford/Lee Menzies were the pace-setters in practice at Phillip Island today, 0.6s quicker than Corey Turner/Danyon Turner.
Best of the F2 Class (600cc) outfits were Mick Alton/Chrissy Clancy, who ended up third outright, and were impressively only just over a second away from the leading pace. The on-track action resumes tomorrow at 9:05am.
