Kelso Impresses Upon Return to GP Juniors Cup

The GP Juniors Cup joined the national championship once again for the first time since Wakefield Park. It was great to see several of Australia’s next road racing stars out there in action. Joel Kelso (JDS Moto, Yamaha YZF-R15) in particular looks to be in great touch with his return to the Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli (ASBK).

Kelso who has returned for a quick stint in Australia from competition in the CIV Italian Championship, was the electric pacesetter for Friday practice. Kelso didn’t take long to find his touch again, setting a 1:41.125 to go at the top of the timesheets.

Championship leader, Max Stauffer (Rock Oil, Yamaha YZF-R15) from New South Walers appears to be Kelso’s greatest threat in second. The pair were separated by three tenths. Such a gap in GP Juniors indicates that these two are in for a great scrap.

Slotting himself into third was Queenslander John Lytras (Caboolture Yamaha, YZF-R15). Harrison Voight (Voight Contracting, Yamaha YZF-R15) from the Gold Coast finished in fourth, followed by Glenn Nelson in fifth and Zylas Bunting from Northern NSW in sixth.

The GP Juniors will be battling it out over two qualifying sessions tomorrow and a race at 2:20pm. Two additional races will take place on Sunday that can be viewed live on ASBK.com.au.
