Cru Halliday Tops Friday’s Kawasaki Supersport Practice

Day one of the Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli (ASBK) got off to a cracking start for practice sessions of the Kawasaki Supersport class. Round 2 Wakefield Park Raceway in New South Wales delivered the goods when it came to fast lap times for the ASBK’s middleweight sports bike class. Fastest of the day was Cru Halliday (Yamaha Racing Team, YZF-R6).

The field of Kawasaki Supersport riders wasted no time to take to the track for the purpose of posting lap times and collecting race data during the practice sessions.

Halliday was the man of the day on his factory Yamaha in Practice Three, lapping ‘The Park’ with a 59.050, ahead of rival and local hero Tom Toparis (Cube Racing, Kawasaki ZX-6R). Toparis setting a time of 59.363.

The third fastest was Broc Pearson (Yamaha Motors Australia, YZF-R6) to complete the top three. Pearson’s fastest lap being a 1:00.186, once again impressing after a solid Round 1.

Pushing towards the front was New Zealand rider, Damon Rees (Carl Cox M-sports, Honda CBR600RR) who stopped the clock at 1:00.212. Lachlan Epis (ResponseRE, Kawasaki ZX-6R) rounded out the top five with a 1:00.320.

Halliday looks strong for tomorrow’s qualifying sessions and it could be a likely battle between him and Toparis for the victory once again.

Qualifying One (Q1) for the Kawasaki Supersport Championship is scheduled for 10:10am local time on Saturday, with Q2 due to take place at 13:55pm.
